Troubleshooting Neck Line

Dear customer,

We know that some people may experience problems with a line between the mesh head and body. This nc will provide steps to follow to try to help you resolve this problem. If these troubleshooting steps do not work for you, you’ll need to reach out to the customer support or group for your specific mesh products.

Any instructions for viewing outfit or other information is based on the Firestorm Viewer. We’ve also provided some information for certain popular brands of mesh – we cannot provide information for every mesh product on the market.

Troubleshooting:

1. Verify you have the most up to date versions of both your head and body. Most mesh creators have updated their mesh to the the SL neck so there are fewer issues with mesh heads/bodies fitting together.
♦ If you needed to update either head or body, check to see if the neck line problem is resolved.

2. Make sure you are not wearing any other body or skin tattoos that are covering the BoM or system skin you have put on. To do this:
♦ Right click your avi and choose Appearance, then choose Edit Outift.
♦ On the Clothing tab, any tattoos you may be wearing will be listed at the very top, they have a red squiggly icon next to them. Take off any tattoos that are for head or body skin, if you have any doubt about what they are, just take them all off.
♦ Once all tattos are removed, check to see if the neck line problem is resolved.

3. Ensure you have Advanced Lighting enabled in preferences.
♦ Preferences / Graphics / Check the box for Advanced Lighting Model and click OK.
♦ This setting ensures you are seeing your mesh in the best possible light, and allows you to see if you have any shines or other materials on your mesh that are changing how it looks.
♦ If you turn this setting on and see that your body and/or head looks metallic or extremely shiny, open the applicable head or body HUD and turn off or clear materials.
♦ Check to see if the neck line problem is resolved.

4. Set your Windlight to a mesh body friendly setting.
♦ Open Firestorm Quick Preference [this is the Phoenix symbol on your toolbar].
♦ Click the down arrow by SKY
♦ Choose any mesh body friendly lighting setting such as CalWL or one of the Nam’s Optimal Skin or Optimal Skin and Prim.
♦ Check to see if the neck line problem is resolved.

5. Check to see if you have tinted either your mesh head or mesh body. Instructions for some common brands are listed below.
BODIES
♦ Maitreya – open hud and go to Skin/Base tab. Click Advanced at the bottom. On the box that opens up, click the Clear Tint button to clear any tint you may have added.

♦ Legacy – wear the Advanced Materials Editor HUD that came with the body. If there is a color showing in the Tint box, click the box and then click one of the white boxes at the bottom of it to clear the tint. The RGB values should all be 255 if there is no tint applied.

♦ Kupra – wear the Configurator HUD. On the Body Accessories tab (2nd tab), make sure the values for RGB Skin are all 255. If not, click on the white box or change all the values to 255.

HEADS
♦ Genus – open the HUD and choose the Genetics tab. Make sure the Layers Control tab is open on the right side of the HUD. Ensure SKIN is the only button selected in the Layers list. Click one of the white buttons to clear any tint.

♦ Lelutka Evo – open the HUD and click the Head button, then the Tint button (it’s the teardrop button below HD). Make sure SKIN is the only line highlighted. If the teardrop at the end of the line is colored or if you’re not sure, click one of the white boxes under the RGB box. The teardrop on the SKIN line will change to white.

♦ Catwa – open the HUD and click the eye dropper symbol. Click the first symbol at the top of the box, this is for the skin. Click Clear Active and/or Clear All at the bottom of the box. This will clear any tint that may be on the head.

♦ If you’ve removed any tint from the body or the head, check to see if the neck line problem is resolved.

6. Ensure the neck size of the body is correct for the head you are wearing. You can experiment with the neck size setting in your HUD to see what looks best. Some common combinations are listed below:
♦ Lelutka head / Legacy body – set Legacy neck size on the 3rd dot from the left on the HUD.
♦ Catwa head / Legacy body – set Legacy neck size on the 3rd dot from the left on the HUD.
♦ Catwa head / Maitreya body – set Maitreya neck size to Type 1, 0 on the HUD.
♦ Genus head / Maitreya body – set Maitreya neck size to Type 2, 5 on the HUD. You may also want to try the previous version of the body, 5.2 and see if it works any better for you.
♦ Lelutka head / Maitreya body – set Maitreya neck size to Type 1, 0 on the HUD.
♦ Check to see if the neck line problem is resolved.

7. Unpack a new mesh head AND mesh body. Wear them and wear your BoM skin or apply the skin you’ve been trying.
♦ Check to see if the neck line problem is resolved.

8. If none of these troubleshooting steps work, please contact the creator of your mesh body and/or head for assistance.

Thank you,
